In my lab I have several nested ESXi hosts and wanted to give this a try.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I powered down a nested host, edited the virtual machine settings, and added the advanced option <code>ethernet0.linkspeed<\/code>, setting its value to <code>25000<\/code> as pictured below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"102\" src=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16-1024x102.png\" alt=\"ethernet0.linkspeed with the value 25000\" class=\"wp-image-2255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16-1024x102.png 1024w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16-300x30.png 300w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16-768x76.png 768w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-16.png 1027w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After powering the virtual machine back on, I checked the ESXi network settings in vCenter and confirmed that the updated link speed was reflected, pictured below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-14.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"967\" height=\"227\" src=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-14.png 967w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-14-300x70.png 300w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-14-768x180.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 967px) 100vw, 967px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Expanding the <code>vmnic0<\/code> details, I could see the adapter was still of type <code>vmxnet3<\/code>, and the link speed was correctly set to the specified value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-15.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"707\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-15.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-15.png 707w, https:\/\/enterpriseadmins.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-15-300x175.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Updating virtual machine link speeds work for nested ESXi hosts as well.  The valid range for <code>linkspeed<\/code> is <strong>10000<\/strong> to <strong>65000<\/strong>.
